So I've been using the HP iPAQ hw6815 for some months now, so how is it living with HP's smallest shipping iPAQ to date?

In summary it has been a very pleasant experience, the form factor of the iPAQ is great, as is it's battery life! A quick summary of what I like about the device is a great screen - bright, sharp, clear, very long battery life(1530MhA battery as standard), it has inbuilt Bluetooth and wifi , it has a fast processor (Intel® PXA272 Processor 416 MHz) and with 128MB memory it has plenty of capacity with a Mini SD slot for further storage of MP3s, videos etc.

I recently took it with me on a two week trip around Asia Pacific, and the device was flawless. I used it for email on the go, for phone calls, for browsing the net, and for connecting to WiFi networks. The screen was easy to read even in the bright sunshine of Singapore!

This iPAQ was origionally only released for the Asia Pacific market, but in October 2006 HP announced they would make this product available in the UK markets.

I always install SPB Pocket Plus on all my devices, here is a screenshot of the today screen, with that utility installed. You will also see the HP built in HP Wireless Manager utility. The second screen shot is of the today screen with the HP tool, TodayPanel Lite application installed. This is based on RhinoCodes TodayPanel product.

HP have made it very easy to connect to WiFi networks, if you have the WiFi turned on, and the iPAQ finds a network, up pops a screen asking if you would like to connect to the network it has just found.

The phone comes with Voice command built in, which I haven't used much. When I was trying it I didn't have much success dialling names from my contacts, but it was flawless dialling phone numbers via a bluetooth headset.

The inbuilt camera is easy to use, it's a 2mb pixel camera, and includes a bright white light that you can switch on for simulating a flash. The pictures it takes are acceptable, as you can see from the two test images below:

So in summary I really like this phone. I also have a iPAQ hw6915, which I use when I need GPS for driving around. Apart from that I tend to take the 6815 due to it's small form factor, and great battery life. Now all I need is for Vodafone to allow me 2 SIMS and one phone number !

The pics show the hw6815 up against the Nokia 6233 and iPAQ hw6915. You can also see the HP today screen, with the wireless control utilities for phone, Bluetooth and WiFI as well as the HP tool to show memory status.
